Great Wall Motor's Beijing Auto Show Entries

And just because we know you're quite curious about the upcoming 2010 Beijing Auto Show, here are some pictures of the models that China's Great Wall Motors is preparing to unveil. For the record, any information we could pull from the rubble of Google's translation can be found below, so let's just call anything read beyond this point...assumptions.

1) Ling Ao (small, 5-door hatch), highlights include: 1.3/1.5 liter VVT aluminum engines (68 kW, 77 kW ; 118, 138 Nm), ABS, and an Alarm System.

2) Great Wall Tengyi C30 a basic, average-looking small sedan.

3) Great Wall Teng Yi C50, an interesting-looking B-class sedan with a 95-kW turbocharged/180 Nm 1.5 liter engine, a CVT, and something about Seiko and Zoran (whatever that mean, I'm intrigued). It also has a tire pressure monitoring system and ESP. For some weird reason, I want this to be good.

4) Great Wall Tengyi C70 mid-size sedan, an oddly attractive with heated seats "with ventilation and lumbar support functions, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, ACC adaptive cruise control, keyless entry systems, interactive media interface system OOS." Also, it may come with rear/all wheel drive and 100 kW / 200 Nm.

5) Great Wall Haval H5 Zhi Zun (which they even built with a Euro-centric face to appease people who can't accept Chinese design's superiority), a B-Class SUV with "GPS navigation, electric sunroof , the main driving six-way power adjustable seats, DVD entertainment system, visual reversing system with voice reminders."

6) Great Wall Haval SC60, relatively good-looking (probably mid/full-size) SUV that feature a hybrid engine, full-time AWD, and a 6-speed automative transmission.

7) Great Wall Haval M3, an overly-creased SUV that features 4-wheel drive, a 4-speed sport automatic transmission, and a 77 kW 1.5 liter engine that makes 138 Nm.

8) Great Wall Haval H6 (B-Class urban SUV): A not-ugly city SUV powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine, driven by a 6-speed automatic transmission, and something that "allows you to surf blossoms". Whatever that means, it's cool.

9) Great Wall Feng Jun 5 (pickup): It looks like a Kizashi/Jetta mixed with a Frontier; not unattractive, but it should be pointed out. Other than that, "work, life, multi-faceted helper." Yup, that describes a pickup.

Shanghai Clone Wars: Great Wall Florid Bonds Scion xA with Toyota Yaris

One of the most eye-popping examples of car-cloning at this year's Shanghai Auto Show is the Florid hatchback from China's Great Wall Motors. What's surprising about the Florid is the fact that it actually copies the design of two vehicles, bonding in a uniquely Chinese way, the body of a Scion xA to the front end of a current generation Toyota Yaris. Inside, the Chinese automaker preferred to keep things simple, maintaining the original Scion xA's dashboard layout.

The driving force behind the Yaris and xA "inspired" subcompact hatch is a Great Wall Motors developed 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 87 horsepower and a maximum torque of 115Nm. For the 2009MY - or so to say, Great Wall Motors extened the Florid's range with the introduction of more powerfull 1.5-liter engine with 105HP.

Toyota Files European Patents for Yaris Sedan, HiLux, Fortuner and Innova MPV Designs

In a previous post we told that you that China’s Great Wall Motors successfully managed to file a European patent on the design of its Toyota Ractis lookalike, the Feel Free minivan (read about it here). Even though Toyota has no plans of importing its Yaris based MPV to Europe, we’re pretty sure that the Japanese firm’s execs won’t be at all happy with this development.

In our search to find out if Toyota has patented any designs at the European trademark office, we discovered that a few weeks prior to Great Walls Motors’ filing, the Japanese automaker had registered the designs of the Yaris Sedan, HiLux pickup truck, the Fortuner SUV and the Innova MPV. With the exception of the HiLux that is already available in Europe, we seriously doubt that Toyota has any intentions of selling the other models on the Old Continent. -Continued

Which leaves with us a question: did Toyota actually register the design patents because they new something was up and if yes, why didn’t they do the same with other models including the Ractis and especially the Scion range since Great Wall Motors has already created clones of the xA and xB models?
