Eastern European Bliss: VW Passat Estate 4X4 Monster Truck [Video]

What would a third-generation home-made Passat off-roader look like? Glad you asked.

This is Mk3 Passat Variant jacked up on a fancy new chassis (somehow I don't think it's as high-tech as Aston's One-77), and the rest...well, watch the videos for yourself. Looks like oodles of rollover-bound fun.

VW Enhances Passat CC with Three-Seat Rear Bench and Equipment Upgrades in the UK

For the 2010 model year, Volkswagen has upgraded the UK-market Passat CC with a three-seat rear bench and new standard features on the base and GT trim levels. When the German automaker first introduces the so-called "four-door coupe" version of the Passat, the CC was offered only as a four-seater. Apparently, buyers wanted one more seat in the back.

New rear seat bench aside, the base Passat CC gains a satellite navigation system along with a touchscreen Bluetooth device as standard while the GT model also gets Nappa leather interior, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control.

Volkswagen says that while these changes represent an extra £1,000 worth of equipment on the entry-level model and £3,000 on the GT, the revised Passat CC Base and GT will cost only £515 and £1,000 more respectively than the models they replace.

The existing line-up of 1.8-litre TSI, 2.0-litre TSI and 3.6-litre V6 gasoline engines and 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines remain, as does the choice of six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes.

Prices for the 2010MY Passat CC start at £22,645 RRP on the road for the 1.8-litre TSI model.

Volkswagen Officially Adds the Letter 'R' to its Vocabulary

Volkswagen has announced that R has become official. In the vein of Audi's quattro GmbH (and AMG, M, SVT, SRT, Nismo. etc.), R GmbH - located near Wolfsburg in Warmenau - will be VW's official in-house tuner, allowing for performance and "individualised" vehicles, along with the "emotionalisation and growth" of the peoples' car.

According to the German automaker, the 'R' division currently employs a staff of more than 350 people.

Bundled together nicely under R will be the R vehicles (currently limited to the Golf R and Scirocco R), development of R Line accessories, and a Volkswagen Exclusive unit that will help customers customize their VDubs to levels once thought only accessible to VW's yuppie brother Audi.

Have a look at some of the 'R' and 'R Line' vehicles in the gallery below.

Video: VW Reveals More Details on its U.S. Market Sedan

In spite of the industrywide crisis VW is pulling ahead with its plans to build its first U.S. production facility in more than 20 years in Chattanooga, Tennessee where it will produce a mid-size sedan designed specifically for North American consumers. Following the initial announcement in July, VW invited to Germany the Governor of the State of Tennessee, Phil Bredesen accompanied by a 50-strong delegation that included Chattanooga's Mayor, Ron Littlefield, and media representatives from the region. -Continued

During last week's presentation in Berlin, VW officials revealed the core values (see video below) of their forthcoming sedan codenamed NMS which stands for "New Midsize Sedan". The vehicle, that could possibly serve as a replacement for either the Passat or the Jetta in VW's North American range, will be offered with both FSI gasoline and TDI diesel engines. According to VW officials, among the requirements that must be met in order to satisfy U.S. consumers is the size and number of cupholders in the interior...

Work at the 2,000-employee, $1 billion manufacturing plant at Enterprise South industrial park in Chattanooga is scheduled to begin in November with the first vehicles expected to roll off the production lines in early 2011. Overall, VW plans to build around 150,000 vehicles a year at its new facility in Tennessee. As for when we'll get our first glimpse of the NMS, Carscoop's sources report that VW most likely show off the car at the Detroit Auto Show in 2010.
